Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) for pain
TENS has been proven to relieve many types of pain. TENS units are inexpensive and can be purchased without a prescription. One difficulty with using TENS is that you have to adjust the current strength and frequency to find what works best for you.
A recent study published in the Journal of Pain and performed in healthy volunteers established that strong, but non-painful TENS at 80 pps (pulses per second) was better than 3 pps in reducing experimentally-induced pain. So, when trying to obtain relief for your particular pain it may be worth trying this frequency first.
